Event Details

The Center for Simulational Physics will host a special Tutorial “Machine Learning for Physicists” on August 5, 2022. The Tutorial will be presented via Zoom by Dr. Ying Wai Li, Future Architecture and Applications Team Leader, Los Alamos National Lab.

Tutorial Schedule

  • 10:30am - 12:00pm: Basic concepts in machine learning. Regression.
  • 1:00-3:00pm: Artificial neural networks and back propagation.
  • 3:30-5:30pm: Application lightning talks.
    • 3:30pm: Ruihan Wang (UGA), Apply an Artificial Neural Network to Extend and Improve Diatomic Molecule Collision Databases
    • 4:00pm: Darin Mihalik (UGA), An Iterative Algorithm for Extending an Inelastic Molecular Collision Database using Gaussian Process Regression
    • 4:30pm: Rinkle Juneja (ORNL), Combined first-principles and machine learning approaches for thermal transport properties
    • 5:00pm: Kipton Barros (LANL), Machine learning to accelerate molecular dynamics simulations
